Pro Tips for Bakery-Worthy Results
Be sure to use pure pumpkin purée, not pumpkin pie filling. Pumpkin pie filling has added sugars and spices, which could alter the taste and texture of your muffins.
When combining the ingredients, mix just until combined to avoid over mixing, which can make the muffins dense instead of light and fluffy.
You can also make mini muffins by reducing the bake time to 10-12 minutes and using mini chocolate chips. Keep an eye on them as they bake!

Yes! While yellow cake mix works great for this recipe, you can substitute it with spice cake mix for even more fall flavor or a chocolate cake mix for a rich chocolate-pumpkin combination.
Using cupcake liners makes it easier to remove the muffins from the tin and keeps cleanup simple. If you don't have liners, you can grease the muffin tin with nonstick spray or butter.
Storage and Reheating Instructions
Refrigerate: Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Freezer: Freeze in an airtight container or zip top freezer bag for up to 3 months.
Thaw and Reheat: Thaw overnight in the refrigerator. To reheat, pop them in the microwave for 20-30 seconds.
Top Recipe Tip
Ovens vary, so start checking your muffins at the 15 minute mark by inserting a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs, they’re done.
