Let me show you easy it it to make this fun treat! Grab the FREE Air Fryer Cooking Times printable available for you too!
This recipe for air fryer wontons is an updated version of a recipe on my blog from quite a few years ago. I originally made Pork Wontons as an appetizer using a deep fryer.
However, using an air fryer for these vegetable wontons means they not only cook quickly, but they're perfectly crispy just as if you ordered them from your local take-out restaurant.
Cooking wontons in air fryer means they're healthier too. Even though they're not deep fried they're still crispy and delicious, just like my Air Fryer Mini Ravioli Appetizer.

What is an Air Fryer?
Air Fryers, simply put, are compact convection ovens. They circulate hot air around a basket that holds your food. I have a Hamilton Beach Air Fryer which is an easy-to-use counter top appliance that produces crispy food quickly with less fat than a deep fryer.

- Won ton wrappers
- Coleslaw mix
- Soy sauce
- Butter
Cooking Tip: You can find wonton wrappers in the produce department of your grocery store. You'll usually find them near the tofu!
Directions
Step 1: Make the Filling
- In a large cast iron pan, melt the butter.
- Add coleslaw mix and cook for about 5 minutes.
- Then add the soy sauce and continue cooking for another minute.
- Finally, season with salt and pepper if necessary.
Step 2: Allow the Mixture to Cool before Assembling
- Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool before assembling the wontons.
Step 3: How to Form the Wontons
- Lay the wonton wrappers on top of a piece of parchment paper.
- Place about a tablespoon of the cooled coleslaw mixture in one corner of the wonton wrapper.
- Dip your finger in a small bowl filled with water and spread a very little amount of the water over the edges of the wonton.
Step 4: How to Fold Wontons
- Fold one corner of the wonton wrapper catty-corner to the opposite corner creating a triangle shape pressing the sides together firmly squeezing out any air bubbles.
- Place on a baking tray that's been covered with parchment paper and cover with a damp paper towel while you continue forming the rest of the wontons, adding them to the tray and keeping covered also with the dampened paper towel.
Step 5: How to Air Fry Wontons
- Preheat the air fryer by setting the temperature to 375 degrees for 10 minutes.
- Once the air fryer is preheated, spray the basket with non-stick cooking spray and add a few wontons to the basket.
Step 6: How Long to Air Fry Wontons
- Let cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until the wontons are golden brown.
- Look how crispy the wontons are! And there was no oil used at all!
- Repeat the process until all the wontons are cooked.
- Once cooked remove from the basket and lay them on a baking tray.
- Allow to cool before serving.
- We like to enjoy them with duck sauce, Homemade Fry Sauce or spicy hot mustard. They're delicious!
How to Freeze Uncooked Wontons
One of the things I love about this recipe is that you can make them ahead of time if you're planning on serving them for company or a party celebration. Here are a few easy tips on how to freeze the wontons:
- After you have formed all the wontons, place them on a tray lined with parchment paper.
- Place the tray in the freezer to flash freeze for about 30 minutes.
- Once frozen, store in a freezer safe bag for up to 3 months.
Cream Cheese Wontons in Air Fryer
You can fill the wontons with a cream cheese mixture. Which is how my son loves them. Here's an easy cream cheese wonton filling recipe:
Spread softened cream cheese mixed with a little garlic powder and maybe a few chopped green onions on the wonton wrappers. Form the wontons exactly the same as the directions for this recipe and proceed with cooking in the air fryer.
Changing the filling for this recipe is easy. Here are a few other options:
- Ground Pork
- Shrimp
- Lobster
- Chocolate - add a few pieces of your favorite chocolate or even candy bar to the wrappers!
Tips for using an Air Fryer
- Achieve a crispy fried texture when cooking a variety of foods, from French fries to steak.
- The electric air fryer is quick and easy to use with no preheating necessary. Select either a pre-programmed setting or a time and temperature up to 400 degrees.
- One touch is all it takes to cook French fries, chicken, seafood, steak, baked goods and veggies.
- Nonstick food basket is removable to easily hand wash.
- Large air fryer cooking basket holds 2.5 liters.
