What is a Dump Cake?
- Dump cake or a crunch cake is very similar to a fruit cobbler, but doesn't have the biscuit batter topping.
- The cake mix gives you the crunch buttery topping.
- You basically do just like the title says and you dump the ingredients into a baking dish and then top it off with the cake mix.
- And the best news is, you can use any canned fruit you like!

Do you stir a dump cake?
No, you do not stir a dump cake. The beauty of a dump cake is its simplicity. The ingredients are layered in the baking dish without mixing, and the magic happens in the oven as the cake bakes.
The bottom layer of fruit creates a saucy base, while the dry cake mix and butter on top transform into a crumbly, cake-like topping. Stirring the ingredients would ruin this crunchy topping.

- Canned peaches
- Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal - you won't need the whole box.
- Butter
- Chopped pecans
- White cake mix; 15.25 ounce size
Recipe Variations and Substitutions
- Use other fresh, frozen, or canned fruits like blueberries, raspberries, apples, or cherries. Or you can add pineapple chunks or mango for a summery flavor.
- Use spice cake mix or add a pinch of nutmeg or ginger to the batter. You can also substitute yellow cake mix for a classic flavor.
- To substitute the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal, try either Golden Grahams, Fruity Pebbles, or even crushed graham crackers for a different flavor and texture.
Step-by-Step Directions
Step 1: Add the cereal to the bottom of a 9X13 inch baking dish that's been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
Step 2: Once the cereal is spread over the bottom of the pan, add the 2 cans of peaches including the juices followed by the chopped pecans.
Step 3: Next sprinkle the cake mix over the top of the entire dish being careful to spread it evenly.
Step 4: Slice the butter, then scatter it evenly over the top. This final touch adds a rich, buttery flavor to the dish, and will help the cake mix transform into a delightful crumbly topping as it bakes.
Quick Tip
My easy dessert was perfectly baked in 50 minutes, but remember that all ovens vary. Keep a close eye on your dump cake and start checking for doneness after 45 minutes. It should be golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
As a general guideline, the center of the dump cake should reach around 200°F, but it's really not necessary to check with an internal thermometer.
Baking Instructions
Step 5: Bake your dump cake in a preheated 350°F oven for 45-55 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly. For a fun finishing touch, sprinkle some crushed Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal over the top as it cools.

Dump Cake Toppings
This cake is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream. A drizzle of caramel sauce would be really good too...only I didn't have any.
How do you store dump cake?
Refrigerator: Store the dump cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5 days.
Freezer: Once your cinnamon toast crunch peach dump cake has cooled completely, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, then in aluminum foil. This double layer of protection is key to preventing freezer burn. Label the package with the date and contents, then place it in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Thawing Tips: Thaw the frozen dessert in the refrigerator overnight.
Reheating Tips: Preheat your oven to 350°F and bake the thawed dump cake for 15-20 minutes, or until warmed through. You can also reheat individual portions in the microwave.

Could you use canned apple pie filling instead of the peaches?
Lois says
Of course! I have a blog post using apple pie filling here: https://walkingonsunshinerecipes.com/cinnamon-toast-crunch-apple-dump-cake/

This was delicious, not I think if I made it again I would skip the cinnamon toast crunch. It became a weird chewy texture that I'm not a fan of. I think the recipe would be great without that on bottom.

I kind of agree but it was still delicious, not sure if it would b the same without the cereal . Maybe just crumble some on top ?
